Independent design studio AEAND is the work of UK-based artist Alessandra Erica. The brand’s name is a portmanteau of the founder’s initials, ‘AE’ and the word ‘and’ implying an opportunity to explore, or a vacancy to be filled. For the illustrator, designer, and maker, this means applying print design to a multitude of surfaces or objects. From textiles to paper, clay and metal, Alessandra brings the two-dimensional nature of print to life across different mediums through screen printing with paper cut-outs and hand drawing. All the materials used are natural and sustainably sourced or recycled, and the artist takes a carefully considered approach to reduce her environmental impact. Inspired by travel and culture, the homewares and art prints are all imbued with an organic minimalism that embraces imperfection and emphasises the beauty of handicraft.
