Carleen is a Los Angeles-based womenswear collection designed by Kelsy Parkhouse, inspired by denim, quilts, Americana, and nostalgia. The brand strives to make aesthetically and functionally durable women’s clothing that delights and inspires. Kelsy founded Carleen in May of 2012 after receiving positive reviews for her thesis collection which drew inspiration from the Grand Canyon and handmade American quilts – a textile that continues to inform the Carleen aesthetic both visually and metaphorically. For its patchwork pieces, the label uses repurposed textiles, and for its original creations, chooses fabrics made from natural fibers, including organic, recycled, and deadstock wherever possible. Everything is made locally in Los Angeles where the brand can keep a close eye on quality, reduce its carbon footprint, and monitor the working conditions of the skilled artisans who make the clothing.
