Hachette
Hachette Livre is a global publishing company based in France, and the third largest trade and educational book publisher in the world. The company was founded when in 1826, Louis Hachette, a 26-year-old graduate of France’s prestigious École Normale Supérieure opened a bookshop near the Sorbonne in Paris. Over the following 40 years, the company went on to become the first European publisher specializing in textbooks, university books and travel guides. After Louis Hachette’s death in 1864 and over the course of the 20th and 21st centuries, the company expanded its reach, acquiring a broad spectrum of prestigious publishers from across the globe, namely in France, the UK, the USA and Spain. Today the Hachette Livre Group collectively publishes some 17,000 new titles each year across fiction, nonfiction, textbooks, travel guides, how-to books, children’s books, dictionaries, comic books and more.
