In 1997, Peter Sterios – a Californian architect turned yogi – created a simple, elegantly designed black mat whose combination of firm grip and complete support revolutionized his yoga practice. He began sharing the product with other yoga teachers who then shared them with their students. The brand – named after the Mandukasana or frog pose – quickly became the international reference for yoga mats.
