Muun Bags
It was during a trip to West Africa in 2004 that Muun founder, Audrey, discovered Ghanaian baskets and the art of straw braiding. After a chance encounter with a local artisan who dreamt of selling his bags in Europe, the two decided to develop their first collection together. Now more than fifteen years later, Muun’s style and range has greatly developed, but the brand’s founding principles are the same: to promote traditional artisanship using the best, natural raw materials. Today the brand works with a combination of elephant grass, woven by a cooperative of women in Ghana; vegetable leather, tanned in western France; and spring wool, harvested, prepared and knitted by women from the Caucasus in Georgia. The result is a fantastic array of handbags that incorporate Scandinavian and Japanese inspirations to redefine the classic basket bag, with a modern, feminine twist.
