Founded in 2014 by Elodie Grande, Varanassi is a French brand that makes superb, hand-woven rugs with a modern, graphic twist. Before launching her project, Elodie travelled to a number of countries in search of traditional production methods. During a trip to India, she was overwhelmed by the colours and the spirituality of the sacred city of Varanasi, previously known as Bénarès, and so named her brand after it. Varanassi places great importance on artisanal craftmanship; each piece is handwoven using traditional methods in India from natural and biodegradable fibres such as wool, cotton, jute and silk. Reinterpreting traditional styles, Varanassi combines ancient savoir-faire with contemporary design making for pieces that are truly original. One of these unique rugs would work just as well in a children’s bedroom as it would under a coffee table. Discover Varanassi today at Smallable!
